Teenage Hormones
Ah, the teen years. Kids
are great, but it is their teenage hormones that get out of control. A few
Essential
Oil recipes and blends I always keep in my arsenal help me to combat the
teenage hormonal war are listed here. I hope you find them as amazing as I
have.
Having two teenagers (and their
teenage friends) in the house is such a joy. To keep mood swings and other
teenage hormonal reactions to a minimum, I use Geranium essential oil - lots
and lots of geranium! I have a geranium
spritzer that I keep handy for emergency use (an after-school emotional
meltdown, or a snappy-door-slamming morning). I also use a diffuser
with geranium oil in it for common rooms where multiple teenagers congregate
(too many to hose down with my spritzer!). I also have a geranium
balm that I use for sneak delivery - I smear it on the bottom of the remote
control, or on the handle of a hairbrush, or on a light bulb... they never knew
what hit them! The difference is amazing. When my daughter has been
snarly and snappy, for no reason (or so she says) I would get some Geranium on
her and within 2 - 5 minutes (usually less) she is talking, and smiling and back
to her happy, charming self. When my son, who is normally even keeled,
mellow and laid back, suddenly became belligerent and mean, I began diffusing
geranium in his room, and in the bathroom and it evened out the hormones so he
was his normal self again. I wouldn't live without it! Now that is an Essential
Oil Recipe!
And try the Cramping
Treatment for those particularly rough days for girls.
Another Teenage anxiety is
acne. There are so many products out there. I find that tea tree
essential oil (100 times stronger than any other antibacterial) works quickly
and efficiently. For a Acne Spot
Treatment, I use a blend of tea tree oil in a witch hazel carrier.
You can apply it with a Q-tip to the specific areas. For larger areas, I make an
Acne Tonic and apply it all over the
areas with a cotton ball. One WARNING: Some people have a
sensitivity to tea tree, so to start, apply these products in a very small patch
to the back of the hand and check it after a day or so. If it is red, or
itches, do not continue use. Remember, essential oils are very
concentrated and are far more potent than over the counter products.
Geranium essential oil is considered by
many to be the most desirable essential oil for hormonal balance. Geranium oils
are by far the finest available and most researched for their therapeutic effect
of balancing hormones.

secreted by the various glands. Geranium essential oil should be effective for
all conditions where a hormone imbalance is creating a problem. It has
been used successfully in the treatment of urinary tract disorders and to
relieve premenstrual tension. A fresh, floral and sweet smelling essential
oil it relaxes, restores and maintains stability of the emotions.
In addition, results were found for alcohol
geraniol found in Geranium essential oil for successful treatment
of autonomic nervous system imbalances. The autonomic nervous system is known to
stimulate your hormonal production and response. Autonomic nervous system
balance is an essential KEY for healthy functioning of the body, mind
and emotions.
