Value Prioritization

You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition.  What you'll discover will be wonderful.  What you'll discover is yourself.  ~Alan Alda

Exercise

Print this page, or download the MSWord version of the exercise to use it online.  Add any values you wish that are not represented in the list.  Count the total number of values you are ranking.

Ranking your Values:

1.   In the Priority column, identify your TOP 5 (1 being the most important and 5 being the least important) values – values, that no matter what, you do not want to give up.

2.   Based on the number of values you are ranking, identify your BOTTOM 5 values – values that if push came to shove, you could let them go.

3.   Now try to fill in the remaining priorities.

4.   If you are using an online version in MSWord, click inside the list and use the Sort feature and sort by Priority so the list will be numbered 1 – X, with the highest priority on the top and the lowest priority on the bottom.

5.   Review this list.

6.   Verify that your ranking is a true and accurate reflection of what you value.

Measurement:

Taking your typical week, or using this week as an example, what are you spending most of your time on?
What are you spending the least amount of time on, or what are the things that fall through the cracks or are allowed to slip? What relationship do you see between where you spend your time, and what you value most?

Now What?

Not sure how to align your values with your current life?  Maybe it’s time for some help.
